New Defender's Study Bible Notes
27:1 sixteen years. A good part of Jotham’s sixteen years was spent as co-regent with his father Uzziah (II Chronicles 26:21).
27:2 entered not into the temple. Jotham was perhaps fearful of being in the temple because of what had happened there to his father. Otherwise he “prepared his ways before the LORD his God” and “did that which was right in the sight of the LORD” (II Chronicles 27:6, 2).
27:7 the acts of Jotham. Probably Jotham’s relatively good and successful reign was partly due to the influence of Isaiah, Hosea and Micah, all of whom were preaching and prophesying in Judah during his tenure (Isaiah 1:1; Hosea 1:1; Micah 1:1). These prophets all continued to prophesy during the reign of Ahaz.
27:9 Jotham slept with his fathers. A signet ring with Jotham’s seal was found in the excavations of Ezion-geber, Judah’s port on the Red Sea.
